Detail of the Last Judgment Tympanum (1107-25) over the west door. Saint Foy lies prostrate in prayer before the Hand of God, interceding on behalf of believers. Her blue cloak and clasped hands associate her with the Virgin Mary. Behind her, only partially seen here, is a representation of the Church of St. Foy itself, including the altar with a chalice for the Eucharist and prisoners' chains left as ex-votos. Running along the divider is part of a lengthy inscription describing the virtues and joys of the redeemed, which also aptly describe St. Foy. Above her are the words "joy in heaven" (AD CELI GAVDIA) and below are "the gentle" and "friends of piety." Credit: Holly Hayes. All Rights Reserved.
